Assessment and evaluation of science configurations#
Across the Partnership, continual evaluation and verification of science configuration outputs is an essential part of the development process. Comparison of modelled climatology with those from observations or reanalyses is key to identify systematic biases or science configuration trends.
GC evaluation tools#
The Met Office maintains routine tools for validation of GC configurations:

Regional evaluation tools#
Regional evaluation is carried out using the Community Seamless Evaluation Toolkit (CSET).
CSET provides a centralised, peer-reviewed set of tools designed to support process-oriented verification and evaluation for UM, LFRic, and machine learning models. It supports both deterministic and ensemble configurations, making it suitable for a wide range of regional workflows.
